The latest version of the Federal Coronavirus Relief Bill (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act)) passed Friday, 27 March, 2020 resulting in a number of financial support options our federal government is providing for individuals and small business owners. The State of Illinois government is also providing economic assistance. If you still have questions for your business, you can seek a Small Business Administration (SBA) counselor here.

Adjusted Operations at BDE

Thank you to all of our clients for being patient as we educate ourselves on the rapid changes occurring at federal, state and local levels. BDE Tax prioritizes the health of our employees and clients above all else, so we have made adjustments to our operating procedures to account for these priorities. These precautionary safety measures may result in longer than expected tax return handling, but our objective remains the same: to continue to provide quality service for all of our clients to the best of our abilities.

We will only be open and available for phone calls during these reduced hours Mon-Fri 9am-4pm and Sat 10am-2pm (January 30 to April 10).

While the BDE Tax doors may be closed, we continue to work behind the scenes, and encourage everyone to take advantage of our remote tools to answer tax questions, drop off and pick up tax documents, and sign and pay for your tax return. We will no longer be accepting walk-ins, however you can still drop your paperwork off by following the drop-off procedures found on our front door and slipping your documents through the front door mail slot 24/7. You can also email us with questions, or upload your documents via the BDE Client Portal 24/7. Please call or email to request a new client portal account.

Thank you, again, for remaining flexible.
– The BDE Tax Family

“Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.” – John Quincy Adams

Please use our mail slot and sign our Drop Off Form when dropping off documents.

Using QuickBooks to Snap and Sort Receipts

You may have seen those fun Danny DeVito ads showing us how easy it is to snap and save your paper receipts into your QuickBooks, but how easy is it really?

Well, that depends if you have QuickBooks Online, or QuickBooks Desktop.

QuickBooks Online
Receipt management is an intuitive feature of QuickBooks Online. Here’s a good article showing how to manage your receipts in general that also references links on how to use QuickBooks Online to “snap and sort” your expenses.

QuickBooks Desktop
Unfortunately, it’s not as easy because the Desktop software requires a plug-in to connect your “snap” device such as your phone to your local QuickBooks Desktop files on your PC.

a) Customize a solution for your QuickBooks Desktop Premiere version if you contact their support at or 1-800-446-8848 for a fee.
b) Search the Intuit AppStore that lists 3rd party apps that can integrate with QuickBooks Desktop. Costs can range from $35/mo and up depending on the number of users in your organization.

How do you sort and organize your receipts for personal or business? Please share your experiences and what works best for you!
